Active Adult Communities are gaining in popularity as the large numbers of baby boomers begin to retire.

The term “Active Adult Community” is broad and covers many varieties of housing communities especially designed to support active, independent living of retirees or seniors.

Many of the progressive Active Adult Communities are master planned for residents in the 55+ age group.  The main attraction is that there are numerous onsite amenities built into the master design that provide residents with things to do close to home.  Such amenities may include clubhouses, swimming pools, shuffleboard, bocce, arts and crafts, boating, trails, golf courses, and active adult retail.  Many communities offer planned activities for socializing as well as access to the outdoors.  Residents of Active Adult Communities can nurture and exercise their minds, bodies and souls.

Active Adult Communities typically offer low-maintenance (or no-maintenance) living in single-story homes, townhomes, villas, cottages or duplexes allowing residents to spend more time doing the things in life they love rather than time spent keeping up their yards.  In addition, many Active Adult Communities are gated which have residents feeling safer in their homes.  Active Adult Communities are often a great compromise for individuals that still want to live on their own, but want to live in a community that will offer them fun as well as support from people their age.
