Assisted Living Communities

Assisted Living Care Communities offer the best of both worlds for seniors who need ongoing help with personal care and typical daily activities yet who wish to retain their independence to the fullest extent that they can.  Assisted Living is a philosophy of care and services promoting independence and dignity while providing residents daily contact with staff members.

In the continuum of a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC, Assisted Living is typically the next step after Independent Living.  It is a good option for those who do not need daily medical care and are reluctant to forfeit their independence, yet need assistance with daily activities such as eating, dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, getting around or taking self administered medications.  Individuals in Assisted Living Care typically do not need the 24-hour medical care provided by a nursing home.

The basic services an Assisted Living Care Community provides include:

  • Three meals per day, often served in a restaurant-like setting
  • 24-hour supervision
  • Personal care assistance (bathing, dressing, grooming, eating)
  • Housekeeping and laundry
  • Transportation
  • Minor medical supervision, such as assistance with medication
  • Security and emergency call systems
  • Health and exercise programs
  • Social, cultural and educational activities

Some communities may even offer recreation/education rooms, exercise areas, yoga studios, outdoor gardens, libraries and places of worship.  And some may arrange for residents to receive senior services in the community, shopping and recreation along with social work assistance to coordinate these services.
